Boxer care
Caring for your Boxer isn’t difficult but it can be quite demanding. Your Boxer dog will need a lot of attention which is why they make great family pets. Us at Boxer care strongly recommend your Boxer dog has daily walks or has access to a garden as they like to roam around and play.
Boxer dogs tend to have a habit of jumping up at people, mainly just to greet them but some people find it quite threatening so your Boxer dog may need to be trained out of that habit, Your Boxer dog will train very easily at a young age.
Love is essential in a Boxer dogs life, usually they’re happy just to sit quietly with their family for hours. Boxer dogs are extremely good with children as they love attention.
If you’re planning on raising a Boxer dog then you’ll need:
- A dog bed
- A dog cage for transport
- Lots of toys
- Canned, dry and fresh food (a choice is always good).
- Flea repellent (Frontline is recommended)
- Leads and collars
- A dog tag with It’s name and a contact number
- Your Boxer dog will need to be chipped if not already
- A blanket for added comfort
- Dog claw clippers
- Chewy treats (pedigree is recommended)
Boxer care reminds that a monthly use of Flea repellent must be used, Frontline is recommended. Your Boxer dog’s claws will need clipping every four - six weeks depending on the speed of growth as it can be quite uncomfortable for your Boxer dog.
Your Boxer dog won’t like it and may try to struggle free so we recommend that you start this at a young age so they get used to this routine.
Your boxer dog will love the beach, woods and other wild walks so make sure he or she will get plenty of out door activity, it;s always best to keep them on leashes as they tend to be quite boisterous with other animals. Sometimes a Boxer won’t be very aware of it’s size or strength so it’s best to keep a close eye while they’re playing with smaller dogs.
Make sure you give your Boxer dog treats when it has done something good or has obeyed a command, your Boxer dog will become more obedient if they think they’ll get something good out of it! see our training strategies for more info.
